Scientific research on digestibility of partially defatted black soldier fly protein meal in laying hens

The importance of sustainable and locally available feed ingredients for livestock increases. To accommodate industry needs an extensive scientific study was performed by Schothorst Feed Research and Protix to determine the nutritional value of ProteinX for laying hens.

The apparent nutrient digestibility, metabolizable energy and apparent ileal amino acid digestibility were published in the Journal of Insects as Food and Feed in 2023. The results show that ProteinX is a promising alternative protein for laying hens. Incorporating ProteinX into poultry diets can help the industry to reduce the reliance on imported soybean meal.
