White paper on palatability of PureeX-based wet food for dogs

Dogs give PureeX, insect meat from Protix, their tail-wagging approval according to a recent trial conducted in collaboration with Normandise which formulated and produced the wet food for the study. The results will please pet owners looking to treat their faithful friends to a delicious and nutritious diet that is healthy and sustainable.

Two diets were put to the test: an insect-only diet with PureeX insect meat and a small amount of ProteinX insect meal, and a hybrid diet combining fresh chicken with these insect ingredients.

The trial shows that 90% of dogs devoured both diets completely or left only crumbs or traces behind, with no significant difference between the diets. This is notable since fresh chicken is considered the pinnacle of palatability. Positive responses, including tail wagging, clearing every last crumb, and asking for more, were observed before, during and after feeding. In a ringing endorsement, over 80% of dog owners would recommend a diet that includes PureeX and ProteinX insect ingredients to others.

The study involved 170 privately owned small- and medium-sized dogs, which were fed the two diets in succession for two consecutive days. Owners submitted their feedback online on their dogs’ acceptance, assessed by their willingness to eat and the amount of food consumed, as well as enjoyment, evaluated through the dogs’ behaviours in response to the diets offered.
