Frass for plant care
Discover the power of Protix's frass - a unique raw material for fertiliser and compost.
Insect frass is a mix of shed insect skins, droppings, and leftover feed from black soldier fly larvae (Hermetia illucens). It is a by-product of our production process that is very suitable as a raw material for fertiliser -in the form of pellets and granulates- and compost, bringing back the ecological balance in your soil.
Benefits
Thanks to its unique composition, our frass offers several benefits, with one of the key advantages being its ability to restore ecological balance to the soil. Six key benefits make Protix's frass the smart choice for fertiliser and compost manufacturers who care about quality, strong and resilient plants, and rich soil life!
Balanced nutritional profile
Our frass has a balanced nutritional profile. It has NPK (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium) values of 1.5-1.5-1.5, and is 40% organic matter.
Feeding micro-organisms
The 40% organic matter in our frass is a vital nutrient source and habitat for soil microorganisms.
Easy to process
Our frass is easy to process into organic fertiliser, including pellets, granulates and compost.
No additives
No additives are required in the production of your organic fertiliser.
Proven low footprint
Our frass has a proven low environmental footprint, as confirmed by an independent lifecycle assessment conducted by DIL, the German Institute for Food Technologies.
Nature's solution
Insects occur naturally in soil. Insect frass is a natural solution that harnesses the role of insects in the circle of life.
Soil health
Enriching soil health with insect-based fertilisers
Negative effects of pesticides and chemical fertilisers on soil life are pervasive, yet rich soil life is needed for strong, resilient plants. Healthy crops thrive only when all soil organisms are in balance.
Soil life can be enriched and restored by eliminating chemical inputs and introducing natural insect frass, for example in form of Flytilizer. This fertiliser developed by Protix boosts soil health, resulting in more resilient plants, and supports a natural cultivation cycle, promotes sustainability and enhances crop nutrition.
Low environmental impact
Our frass shows low emissions, and low land and water use, as confirmed by a detailed lifecycle assessment from DIL, the German Institute of Food Technologies. Fertiliser and compost manufacturers can use this data to calculate the reduced footprint of their final products.
0.01128 kg CO2 eq. emissions
per kg product
0.00004 m2 land use
per kg product
0.0051 m3 water use
